S.E. Swann won the M8+ gold medal at OG Stockholm 1912 and the M8+ silver medal at OG Antwerp 1920. He was a member of the victorious Cambridge Boat Race crew 1914 and C.U.B.C. president in the same year.

As there was no suitable course at Antwerp the rowing events took place
in the north of Brussels on the Canal de Willebroeck from De Drie Fontainen
to Marly, 2000 m straight. 136 athletes from 14 nations competed
in five boat classes (M1X, M2X, M2+, M4+ & M8+) from Aug. 27th to 29th.
USA won three gold medals (M1X, M2X, M8+).
