The magazine TIP TOP WEEKLY was promoted as °An Ideal Publication for the American Youth°. The short stories surrounded the sporting adventures of fictional characters Dick and Frank Merriwell.

The New London Boat Race or Yale-Harvard Boat Race is an annual contest between M8+ crews of Harvard University and Yale University. First rowed in 1852, it is America's oldest athletic competition.	The coloured drawing shows an incident during the 1890 race when the Yale stroke broke his oar and dove over- board. Yale still won the race.
