The stamp was withdrawn from sale on March 11th, 1980 due to the U.S. boycott of the Olympic Games 1980 at Moscow. It was re-released on Aug. 4th, 1980 "to honour the fine men and women of the U.S. Olympic team who had sacrificed months and years of training" (quotation of postmaster General William F. Bolger) |
